About the Speaker: Josh Weiss, PhD.

Josh Weiss, Senior Fellow, Harvard Negotiation Project & Director, M.S. Leadership and Negotiation at Bay Path University will join us again July 21st to give us all a master class in negotiation.

Dr. Weiss provides the tools necessary to be good negotiators. With his insight, we learn to overcome and re-frame the common barriers in negotiation: fear of conflict, fear of the employer's power, and fear of negotiating poorly.

As negotiation is a prevalent part of our everyday communication, it is no wonder that it is also heavily utilized in our professional work environments. It has been reported that 80% of recruiters are more likely to hire candidates who make a lasting first impression by negotiating their prospective job offer. Women, however, face the most pushback when they attempt to negotiate in their workplace. When women negotiate, it is often received as too intimidating and aggressive as opposed to independent and confident. The gender gap in negotiation is rooted by societal gender roles but can be reduced when women are educated on the tools needed to encourage their own autonomy and promote their value.

Dr. Weiss has spoken and published on leadership, negotiation, mediation, and systemic approaches to dealing with conflict. Dr. Weiss’ latest book, is entitled The Book of Real-World Negotiations: Successful Strategies from Business, Government, and Daily Life. The book shines a light on real world negotiation examples and cases, rather than discussing hypothetical scenarios. It reveals what is possible through preparation, persistence, creativity, and taking a strategic approach to your negotiations.
