Vice President, Webster Bank
Amena Islam is a Vice President at Webster Bank. In her newly launched role, she drives
the Strategic Analysis of Credit Risk for the bank’s Credit Risk Review unit. Amena has 15+
years of global financial experience with commercial banks from the US to Southeast Asia.
She experienced life abroad in many roles: as a Global Risk Management professional, an
expat, and as a stay-at-home Mom raising a daughter. Once she returned to Connecticut,
she dove into community work and strategic business consulting for a local small business
while planning her career return. Amena attended our skillUP partner Our Second Innings,’
Data Analytics courses, and many UP events. She learned the importance of getting her
business jargon back and valued the opportunities to network and practice speaking about
her professional background, with people in industry.
Prior to her opt-out years, Amena grew her career in the financial services industry to a dynamic role with General Electric Capital Corporation in Singapore as a Risk Analytics & Consistency Leader. Prior to that she served as a Senior Restructure Specialist in Danbury, CT. She sees the difference Covid has made in the ability to deliver work flexibly and enjoys a majority remote work environment.
Her biggest piece of advice to returners is: Believe in yourself, always believe that you bring value to the company because of your past professional experience, as well as the valuable experience gained while working in the non-professional role.
